- As a General Engineering Contractor in Northern California specializing in water main installation/replacement, we are a third generation company with roots dating back to 1946. Recent projects have compelled a review of our fleet with focus on additional equipment requiring maneuverability and versatility while maintaining acceptable production working in conjunction with larger machines. This retrospection owing to current projects on and in existing residential streets and limited right of ways.
The search for the right machine began with our long time equipment dealer fully expecting to add another "yellow" unit to our existing fleet. After an intensive demo on job site conditions, full cooperation of local dealer and factory support addressing underperforming first choice, search continued to the other equivalent "yellow" machine. Again, after demo in job site conditions, and dealer and manufacturer cooperation, second "yellow" machine failed to live up to expectations. This expectancy was judged against a five year old Takeuchi TB175 we frequently rented the last two years.
After comparative elimination of two additional 18,000# midi excavators our focus turned towards a Takeuchi TB180FR. A fully confident and cooperative Takeuchi dealer had no qualms providing and demonstrating his machine against any and all competition. Their cooperation and confidence in the new TB180FR proved a winning combination. Principals, foreman, journeyman operators with thousands of hours operating many makes, models, controls, configurations, agreed the TB180FR is the most productive and versatile 18k midi excavator.
Despite the conflicting colors in our yellow fleet, we are confident we made the right choice!
Respectfully,
Steven Ahlstrom, President
